REMEDIAL ACTION for Loosened K Mount lens mounting when using PK+MM.
Created on 7th July 2014 (version 1.0)
The reason for the loose fitting of Pentax K mount lenses on PK+MM is due to the reduced tension effect of the 3 springs beneath the mount ring that is used to hold the lenses, both K mount and adapted mount lenses. The location of these 3 springs are pointed out below.
This spring is compressed further when using adapted mount lenses compared to K mount lenses. The comparison of the state of the spring in the original mount without lens, PK+MM with adapted lens and PK+MM when K mount lenses (after prolong usage) are shown below. In normal circumstances, the spring will return to its original state when lens is dis-mounted and still continue to provide sufficient strength to hold the lens when lens mounting occurs again. However, after extended period of time when adapted mount lenses are mounted, the strength of this spring is reduced, causing the loose lens mounting effect of K mount lenses. |
Our recommended remedial actions are as follows.
IMPORTANT: The following remedial action may risk dust/dirt going into your mirror box.
1. Remove the PK+MM mount ring carefully and tilt up the whole of the spring ring slightly up from the bottom right corner. This spring ring is connected to camera body so do not pull too hard.
2. Push the 3 spring tabs mentioned above away from you into the mirror box slightly. Hold for about 10-20 seconds.
3. Repeat for the other 2 springs.
4. The purpose of this remedial action is to return the spring back to its original state and original tension strength.
5. Mount ring should be replaced immediately.
6. The K mount lens should mount more tightly then before this remedial action is performed.
Action remarks:
- To ensure extended periods between performing this action again, do not mount adapted mount lenses for extended period of time, especially during non-usage.
- During daily storage or during long periods of travelling, a K mount body cap should be used in such circumstances.
